Subject Headings

Subject Headings are used to classify materials and can quickly help you locate relevant material.  However, you can't make up your own subject heading, they are selected from a predetermined list.  Here are some subject headings to use:

  • Environment (Art)
  • Environmental protection in art
  • Ecology in art
  • Earthworks (Art)

To apply subject headings, use the Advanced Search Mode in Discovery. In the Select a Field box, choose SU Subject Terms and then type in one of the terms above. Books, ebooks, and journal articles relating to that area will appear.

Other Searching Tips

  • Using the artist name will yield results mentioning the artist
  • Artist interviews can yield useful information, combine artist name and interview, ex: Helen Mayer Harrison AND Interview
  • Don't forget to explore broader themes of artist's works, ex: art AND land reclamation

Books in the JKM Library

To find a book held by the JKM Library, search the Online Catalog:

If the library does not have a book you  need, try E-ZBorrow, a consortia of libraries that share their collections.

*Ignore all books in E-ZBorrow that have a book icon with an 'e' on them. These are e-books, which cannot be requested. Instead look for a print version (no 'e' on the book icon).

Remember!

There may not be an entire book written about your artist, however there could be a chapter or two.

You may not have to read an entire book! Academic works are written so that relevant sections/chapters are easily identifiable.

E-Book Sources
