The JKM Library and Chatham's Food Studies Department have been partnering to bring the International Edible Books Festival to the Chatham community for close to a decade! View edible book entries and see winners from our past International Edible Book Festival events via the links below. This event did not run during 2020, 2021, 2022, or 2023 due to COVID-19, but is returning in 2024!
The International Edible Book Festival is an annual event usually held on or around April 1, which is also known as Edible Book Day. The global event has been celebrated since 2000 in various parts of the world, where 'edible books' are created, displayed, and small festivals are held.
What is an 'edible book'? An 'edible book' is a food or beverage item inspired by a book, character, or the general love of reading. Puns are highly encouraged. Contestants can create an 'edible book' to submit to the festival contest, and their literary creations will be tasted and judged by a panel. Prizes will be distributed! Chatham University has been celebrating this fun international event since 2012 as a collaboration between the JKM Library and Food Studies program.
The 2024 International Edible Book Festival will be held on Monday, April 8th from 4:00pm-6:00pm on the first floor of the library building! Learn more and register to submit an 'edible book' to the contest, go to Happenings. Questions? Ask a librarian!
