alertUpdate 5/18/2015 2:10pm: The upgrade is complete, and off-campus access to library databases is now working. If you have any difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone: 412-365-1670, by email: jkmref@chatham.edu, or by IMing us on our website here: http://library.chatham.edu/.
On Monday, May 18th, we will be upgrading EZproxy, which is the tool that allows you to access our library databases from off-campus. This will mean that access to the databases from off-campus will be spotty at best and possibly down all day.
If you normally have to log-in using your Chatham username and password while on-campus (this often happens for computers connecting to the wireless, as well as the occasional desktop computer), that access will be affected as well.
We hope to have the upgrade completed in as timely a manner as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Thanks for all the great feedback on our “I wish my library would…” poster! We have posted print responses where the poster used to be and will be posting a series of responses here on our blog as well. Request for More Electronic Resources We are always striving to provide you with the online resources you need. We added ScienceDirect over the summer, Environment Complete in the fall, and we will be adding America: History and Life with Full Text at the beginning of April. We are looking at others for the next fiscal year as well. The cost of these resources, especially those with full text, can be prohibitive. In 2011-12, we spent over $200,000 dollars on online resources alone. These resources are not one-time fees. We have to pay for yearly access and the price goes up every year. One of our full-text databases cost us $27,000 this academic year. However, if you know of resources you would like us to look into, please let us know! Also, if we don’t have access to a particular journal, magazine, or newspaper, you can still get articles from it by using Interlibrary Loan – articles usually arrive within 2-5 business days and most are PDFs that we send right to your email. It’s also a free service for you to use – we don’t pass any of the costs onto you.

Are you planning to study or travel abroad soon but don’t know what to expect? Consider using Global Road Warrior to learn more about the country or countries you’ll be visiting! This great resource provides tons of useful information for travelers, including communications, health & medical, money & banking, transportation, and travel essentials. It also contains information for business travelers with a special section for businesswomen. Discover the details of traveling by water in Venice, learn how to start an informal conversation with someone in Indonesia, find out more about the Hidrellez festival in Turkey (May 5-6), or cook up some traditional German recipes.

Trial to Education Complete
The library currently has a 60-day trial to a resource from EBSCOhost called Environment Complete. This
database contains full text for over 900 journals and provides informational access to a wealth of other journals.
According to EBSCO’s website, Environment Complete covers topics related to “agriculture, ecosystem
ecology, energy, renewable energy sources, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution
& waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban
planning, and more.”
How You Can Help
We need your feedback! Let us know what you think of this resource. Will it be helpful to you in your
research? Does it provide access to information you cannot find elsewhere? Please email Amy Lee Heinlen
at aheinlen@chatham.edu or submit a comment through our comment form, and let us know what you think.
Your feedback will greatly help us as we decide whether or not this resource would be a good addition to our
collection.

August 2011

The JKM Library has added yet another database: Science Direct – Health & Life Sciences Journal Collection! This collection will be useful to students, faculty, and staff interested in the fields of biological & agricultural sciences, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, environmental science, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and more. Please be aware that while this database contains almost 1,000 full-text journals, it is not entirely full-text. You will get results from books in your search, but the library does not subscribe to any of those. However, you can check our catalog to see if we have them in print, or order them through E-ZBorrow. If there’s an article you want that’s not available full-text, order it through Interlibrary Loan!

Interested in Chatham history? If so, you’ll want to check out Chatham’s new Internet Archive page. This
collection contains publications from the University Archives, including the long-running alumni magazine,
campus literary magazines, select issues of the student newspaper, yearbooks, course catalogs, and a history of
the institution’s first ninety years.
This exciting project was made possible through the LYRASIS Mass Digitization Collaborative—a Sloan
Foundation grant-subsidized program that has made digitization easy and affordable for libraries and cultural
institutions across the country. Chatham received additional support from the Archives Cummins Fund.
Through the Collaborative’s partnership with the Internet Archive, all items were scanned from cover-to-cover
and in full color. The archive can be viewed through a variety of formats—page through a book choosing the
“read online” option, download the PDF, or search the full text version.
If you have any questions about this project or the Archives in general, please contact the archivist, Rachel
Grove Rohrbaugh at 412-365-1212 or rrohrbaugh@chatham.edu.

March 2011

The JKM Library recently added the database SciFinder Scholar. This resource from the American Chemical Society is an excellent tool for students in chemistry, biology, and food studies. In order to use SciFinder, you will first need to create a personal account. Once you have done so, you’ll be able to login and search the database. SciFinder does not contain full text, but will link you out to Journal Finder (a.k.a., the List of Print and Online Journals) if you click on the “Full Text” link below the article in which you are interested. Journal Finder will check to see if the JKM Library has access to the journal in which your article appears. SciFinder’s main search option is the “Explore References” one. It lets you search for your topic using keywords and phrases. You can also use the “Explore Substances” search (available at the top of the screen) to search for a chemical by drawing its chemical structure. Lastly, there also an “Explore Reactions” search that allows you to search for a reaction by drawing it as well. SciFinder Scholar works off campus as well. You may get a warning about an outdated certificate when you login. This occurs because SciFinder uses a different method of securing their data than other library websites. If you have any questions about SciFinder Scholar, just ask us! (412) 365-1670 or jkmref@chatham.edu.

SciFinder Scholar is now working off campus. Once you log in, there will probably be a message about a certificate that is out of date. You can just override that, and you should be able to get into the database. Any questions, just let us know! MarketLine is still not working off campus. You can access the company reports by going into Business Source Elite and clicking on Company Profiles in the upper left corner of the screen. If you need an industry or country report from MarketLine please feel free to call the reference desk at (412) 365-1670 or send us an email (jkmref@chatham.edu), and we’ll be happy to send you the report you need.
